Everyday Joy

Advent dec 17.jpg*

‘Rejoice! rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel.’

ancient words from the 12th century

yet we still sing it today

some things never get old, i guess

like the promise of Emmanuel

*

well, he HAS come!

he is here

in the heart

in the every day

in every. single. moment.

Emmanuel, God with us

*

he sees the pain, the struggles, and the loss

he sees the joys and the laughter

he knows each of us by heart

we never walk alone

God walks every step with us

*

even on the hard days

this undercurrent of joy runs strong

for no one and nothing can take away the joy he brings

*

rejoice! rejoice!

Emmanuel is with us!

*

blessings,

Tracy

Uncomplicated Joy

Advent dec 15

why do we make things so complicated?

decorating the house

finding the perfect gifts

making memories

keeping traditions

baking all those cookies

sending Christmas cards

attending concerts & parties –

all are joyful ways to celebrate his coming,

but when the schedule is full

we can feel pretty tired and empty

(preaching to myself)

*

when God says that he has come that we may have life to the full,

he didn’t mean a full calendar

*

how about a life full of hope, peace, and JOY?

sounds good to me!

let’s focus on the simple, uncomplicated joy found in the manger

and celebrate that!

*

blessings,

Tracy

Advent Dec 13 Advent dec 14

this week’s focus is on one of my favorite things –

joy.

that attitude of thankfulness

and feeling of peace all wrapped up in three letters –

joy.

*

repeated words from the old carol

‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ come to mind today –

‘O tidings of comfort and joy’

each verse sharing the Christmas story

of a baby sent from heaven to save,

of angels appearing,

and shepherds seeking, finding, and rejoicing!

*

there are days during this season that we may wonder

what happened to that comfort and joy?

they have never left,

they may have become buried under the two joy stealers –

stress & worry.

we may have lost our focus

but the comfort and joy that God give us through his Son

is always there for us to rediscover

*

this week, let’s set our eyes on that baby born to save

let’s seek him like the shepherds

and rejoice!

*

blessings,

Tracy

Welcome December

Advent 1 no gnl

*

welcome December

welcome anticipation

this month-long celebration

*

there was a time when i found myself actually relieved when Christmas was over

too much stress crowded out any joy

finding the perfect gift

creating perfect memories for my kids

lists too long of to-do’s

*

since that regretful Christmas,

i’ve commited myself to finding the joy

each Christmas season

to slow down

to be still

and focus on what’s most important

*

i encourage you to find time every day

these next 24 days

to pause

reflect

to savor the joy of the greatest gift given to us . . .

*

“I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:10-11

Blessings,

Tracy

Ephesians 5

I’m excited and grateful to have one of my blogs posted by A Word for Women this week! Here’s a little bit of it. To read the entire post, click on the link below.

“It is not happy people who are thankful, but thankful people who are happy”.
*
Perhaps you’ve seen this saying floating around on social media. There is definitely truth in it, but there’s something missing.
There is something deeper than happiness that we experience when we are thankful – and that is JOY.
Isn’t that what we all crave?
True joy, deep-down-in-the-soul joy, a joy that doesn’t change with the life’s shifting winds.
The secret to getting that joy is this:
Give thanks.
That’s it. Simple. Just give thanks.

joy begins

the cold October air greets me this morning

sends a chill right through me

i love this time of year

the brilliant colors

the woodsy smells of the outdoors

the pleasure of kicking leaves as i walk

joy is abundant

but if i turn my focus on to all that surrounds me which is dying

flowers fading

foliage decaying

that saps the joy right from this moment

*

Paul says in Philippians 4:4:

Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice!

*

some days it’s not easy to be joyful

days may stretch into months when

joy is hard to find

when its a struggle simply to smile

and tears are too close to the surface

*

how do you find joy when you don’t feel joyful?

the answer is this:

find one small thing

to be grateful for

just one small thing

then find another

and another

*

the act of gratitude is the key to being joyful

recognizing undeserved gifts from our loving God

and giving thanks for them

this is when we begin to feel joy

by turning eyes from myself

and the situation

instead focus eyes on the graces that fall from heaven

like leaves falling from trees

joy is rekindled

*

embrace this moment with open eyes

to recognize gifts

open hands to receive them

give thanks

find joy

*

-blessings,

Tracy
