storms can be scary

when my kids were little, there were many nights when they slept on our bedroom floor during a strong storm

we all need that feeling of security when life gets out of control

i’m so thankful that my loving, heavenly Father is always there to run to

keeping me safe in his arms

sheltering me through the storms of life

shelter me

The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?

For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.

 Psalm 27: 1,5

run to Him,dear  friends

dwell there,

while visiting a friend’s farm recently

i was drawn in by what i saw and felt

a  beautiful rural scene of a barn and chickens

a feeling of quiet and peace

simple things yet profound

so many of you are carrying heavy burdens on your hearts

God’s words are simple yet profound

and will fill you with quiet and peace

this is His simple command:

Dwell in June

dwell june 1b

dwell june 1c

praying you feel His peace today

Take a Load Off

i had the chance to sneak away over the weekend for a couple hours. i went to my favorite antique store

it’s an old building, the floor creaks, and it smells a little musty

but I love to poke around and discover treasures that will find their way home with me

i especially like to think about the stories behind all these old things

when i saw some old suitcases, i wondered who had carried them

what did they put in them

where did they travel to

i imagine a young girl off to visit her grandmother barely managing but insistent on carrying her own heavy suitcase

sometimes i carry around too much

going  from day to day, not taking the time to unload most of it

stubbornly thinking that i can manage it all by myself

raising teenagers

the never-ending financial worries

things going on at work

things going on at home

even the burdens of others that i willingly take on

and then add my favorite question of the day – “what’s for supper?”

maybe you are raising toddlers

or worrying about something you have no control over

perhaps it’s the responsibility of carrying for a loved one who can no longer care for themselves

or maybe it’s words that you said that you wish you could take back

the past

juggling, balancing, and carrying all that stuff around gets to be too much

it’s stressful, and it can  be unhealthy

it can be tiring

and then i hear Jesus say “come”

“Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

it’s a command

it’s an invitation

Jesus wants us to go to him and give it all to him

all of it

he welcomes it

sometimes he carries it for us and we don’t have to worry about it anymore

and sometimes he helps us carry it

 he’s always there – all the time – 24/7

close your eyes

take a deep breath

whisper a prayer

imagine Jesus with his arms open wide

he is there for us and he offers rest & peace

isn’t it a relief to know that we don’t have to do this alone?

so girls, let’s rest

rest in Jesus a little more this week

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

do you find yourself putting things in that overstuffed suitcase?

I’d love to hear from you so we can pray & encourage each other to leave it with Jesus and find rest
