have you ever experienced something so beautiful you just had to be part of it?

a sunset

the ocean

view from a mountain high

a field of flowers

drawn in

by God’s beauty

FullSizeRender (16)

i couldn’t just walk by this flowering crabapple

i had to be part of it

under its canopy of blossoms

it’s limbs stretched wide to shelter and embrace

FullSizeRender (17)

a blanket of beauty

a breath of God’s grace

a reminder of His presence

for a moment all is ok

the rest is forgotten

take time to see the gifts of grace that surround us

enjoy the splendor and beauty of our amazing God

find the extraordinary in the ordinary

praise him for the little everyday things

it’s all grace

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Psalm 103:1

“keep calm and carry on”

something about this phrase has never set right with me

can’t put my finger on it

remaining calm is always  good when facing distressing situations

but it’s the self-reliance that fails

maybe that’s it

new variations are popping up everywhere –

keep calm and . . .

 . . . go shopping

. . . eat chocolate

 . . . pretend everything’s ok

the world’s answer to handling stress

but when your world turns upside down

and life gets really hard

none of these sayings offer comfort

none of them can calm you as the storm rages and surrounds

only these words

that my sweet, wise mother shared with me recently –

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.  He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17

keep calm

How do we keep calm?

He will quiet you with His love.

How do we carry on?

The Lord God is with you . .

we never walk alone

He calms

He saves

He delights

He loves

He forgives

on spring days like today, i like to walk through my gardens

in search of new life

discover new blossoms

it’s been about a week since last i’ve ambled

what i saw was not what i was expecting

overwhelming weeds

what a mess

when did this happen?

as i walked on

overcome with the work that lay ahead

discouragement was replaced with delight

bluebells i had forgotten

random tulips planted by squirrels

even dutchman’s breeches a bird left behind

i couldn’t help but think about life

we can make such a mess of it

mistakes, lies, broken promises

like weeds sin invades

wounds the heart

and chokes the spirit

but amidst the sea of pain

grace blossoms

God is there

showering blessings

small joys spring up

hidden among the weeds

we just need to seek them

Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

I Chronicles 16:11

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Romans 12:12
